The purpose of this guide is to allow thermal sprayers, thermal spraying operators and managers, as well as metal fabrication facilities and staff, to implement masking strategies that are the most efficient, accurate, and cost effective. The focus here is masking to protect against unwanted abrasive blasting and deposition of all common forms of thermal spray coating. The guide is intended for situations involving repetitive masking applications (high volume production) as well as prototype work for specialized “one off” applications. This guide is intended to demonstrate the best use of a variety of thermal spray masking products.

Although this guide is not written with mandatory requirements, mandatory language, such as the use of “shall”, will be found in those portions of the document where failure to follow the instructions or procedures could produce inferior, misleading or unsafe results.
