A bench-scale cross-flow flat-sheet filtration unit is being used to evaluate short-term chromium (Cr (VI)) rejection by negatively charged membranes. Three mechanisms, solution diffusion (dominant in RO), size exclusion (dominant in NF), and electrostatic exclusion (dominant in UF), are being highlighted in this study for chromium removal. In this study, RO, NF, and tight UF membranes have been tested to evaluate the effects of pH and co- and counter ions on Cr (VI) rejection. Includes 9 references, tables, figures.
