This extended abstract discusses how, in 2001, the State of Georgia created the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, consisting of 16 counties surrounding Atlanta, and put the region on the fast track to develop long-term water conservation plans. In order to meet this requirement, water demands and an aggressive conservation program were developed for the area to the year 2030.
