Tools such as artificial neural networks (ANN) could help operators in selecting operating conditions in response to widely varying raw water quality, to achieve finished water quality goals as well as to meet the desired plant capacity. This paper gives a brief overview of ANNs and their use in predicting the performance of microfiltration/ultrafiltration when treating raw water with widely varying quality.
