This slide presentation outlines a study on affordable desalination. Project goals included: demonstrate affordable desalination using off-the-shelf technology; create a body of data that can guide and benefit future seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) designs; and, promote seawater desalination as an affordable, viable source of freshwater. Background is given on: desalination energy requirements; California water supply energy requirements; and, California water supply and treatment costs. Information is outlined on the US Navy Test Facility at Port Heuneme, California, along with testing protocol, test parameters and data collection, cost estimating procedures, and quality control.
