To increase energy efficiency in the water/wastewater sector, the State of Wisconsin developed an energy efficiency program which included program offerings specifically targeted at the water/wastewater industry. The primary goal of the program was to save energy at water/wastewater treatment facilities and distribution/collection systems by implementing energy-saving modifications. The objective was to develop an assessment approach that would provide the owner with four useful tools that include: review facilities (Energy Survey) and make recommendations for improvements; provide a description of the modifications and estimate of the energy that could be saved; provide an estimated modification cost and estimated payback in terms of energy savings; and, facilitation assistance to move the project to implementation. This approach was well-received by municipalities because the results from these work items were summarized in a short report presented to superintendents. The superintendents presented the information to their governing bodies. The governing bodies used them to assist in their decision to move forward with project(s). Includes figure.
