This slide presentation outlines a study that addressed combined nitrate and arsenic treatment needs. Project objectives were to: determine optimal approach for treatment of both nitrate and arsenic that included combined treatment by ion exchange and independent treatment of nitrate by ion exchange and other technology for arsenic; and, optimal approach determined by brine production. A case study of Ripon, California is presented with the challenges of: increasing water demand; nitrate and arsenic occurrence; and, disposal of high strength brines. The pilot study description is given, along with ion exchange resins, experimental setup, and results for sulfate, arsenic, nitrate. Full-scale treatment implications included: difference between longest runtime for nitrate removal and combined nitrate and arsenic removal was minimal; and, combined treatment of nitrate and arsenic for the City of Ripon is more optimal than independent treatment of nitrate by ion exchange and arsenic by an alternate technology. Includes tables, figures.
