This slide presentation outlines information on Singapore's 1st Municipal Desalination Plant. It is the world's second largest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant, the world's only SWRO plant of this scale to use in-filter dissolved air flotation (DAF), the world's largest in-filter DAF, the world's most cost efficient desalination plant, and it is one of the lowest specific energy consumption desalination plants. Singapore is considered a water stressed nation and is considering a holistic approach to managing the water cycle in Singapore and diversifying sources. The focus of this presentation is on Singapore's efforts to to meet 10% demand using seawater desalination and using a Public Private Partnership that would: encourage the private sector to participate in non-core services; allow private sector innovation (i.e., private sector can select most cost effective technology, site, procure or generate energy, etc.); and, optimize capital and operating costs in competitive bidding environment. Specific topics outlined of the Tuas Desalination Plant include: process alternatives; intakes; pretreatment; in-filter DAF; process schematic; 1st and 2nd pass reverse osmosis (RO); energy consumption; flow balance overview; post-treatment; and, waste disposal.
