This slide presentation outlines an effort to improve water system operations using a comprehensive performance evaluation methodology. The statement of problem includes: Well 2 reclassified as groundwater under the influence of surface water; Treatment Plant was modified to meet Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR); Issues with turbidity monitoring and reporting; supervisory control and data aquisition (SCADA) software "bug" resulting in reporting error for CT and chlorine residual; and, DEP issued Administrative Consent Order to correct violation. Other issues included: variable water quality requiring periodic changes in chemical feed, well blending and backwashing procedures; use of alum as coagulant was resulting in discharge permit issues at WWTP; and, filtration media and other plant components have been in operation for 17 years. Project objectives were to: improve water treatment performance, efficiency and meet water quality goals; provide operators with tools to better perform their jobs; and, improve the overall operations of the water system. Project methodology consisted of five phases: Operation Audit; Comprehensive Performance Evaluation; Filter Assessment; Developing standard operating procedures; and, Implementation of recommendations and operator training. Includes tables, figures.
