The presentation outlines introductory information on nitrification and points out that low-flow, dead ends or oversized mains and low-turnover tanks are nitrifying areas. It presents monitoring parameters such as determining baseline water quality, and explains how determining an effective response depends on an accurate assessment of the cause of nitrification. An example of a Nitrification Action Plan for a distribution system is provided which will establish the type and level of response, according to the location and extent of nitrification.
