This powerpoint presentation begins by providing background information on the City of Rio Rancho, the 4th largest city and the fastest growing city in New Mexico. Its Water Reuse Strategy consists of: expanding the use of reclaimed water; and, reducing groundwater withdrawals. Integrated Membrane System (IMS)includes; IMS integrates two or more membranes with other processes; IMS can be used to achieve multiple treatment objectives; IMS is increasingly being considered for wastewater recycling; IMS system generally includes Reverse Osmosis (RO) process; and, RO generates a significant volume of concentrated waste. Research objectives include: investigate innovative beneficial reuse alternatives of RO-concentrate; and, investigate several innovative ideas to minimize RO-concentrate volume. A schematic of the IMS Pilot Process is presented, along with the MBR Pilot System; the RO pilot system; points on Concentrate Beneficial Reuse; bipolar membrane electrodialysis; experimental setup; results: acid and base production; cost evaluations assumptions; economic feasibility: BMED; concentrate minimization; forward osmosis; osmotic pressure measurements; evaluation of draw solutions; selected draw solutions; innovative draw solution; evaluation of membranes; dewatering RO concentrate using FO; results: decline in specific flux, and effect of chemical cleaning.
