This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the need for a new water treatment facility for the city of Geneva. Membrane softening was selected as the treatment process, with pretreatment for iron and manganese. A pilot study was conducted to determine pretreatment requirements, raw and filtered shallow well water from existing plant were treated by RO pilot. Existing plant consisted of oxidation with chlorine and pressure media filtration. Pilot testing conducted with two pilots: initial screening of various membranes and pretreatment options using 2.5" membrane elements at 50% recovery; and, further investigation of optimized conditions using 4" membranes at 80% recovery. Two different membranes were tested in parallel, with and without pretreatment using 2.5" membranes. Process design parameters for the full scale facility are provided, along with process schematic. Includes figures.
