Philadelphia's High Pressure Fire System, a distinct water distribution system separate from the city's standard pressure filtered water distribution system, was constructed a century ago solely for fire fighting purposes in the business section of the city. This paper discusses a study that was undertaken to assess the condition of the High Pressure Fire System and to evaluate it's usefulness in the twenty-first century in consideration of present fire suppression techniques, current building codes, modern fire-proofing materials, and contemporary risk management methods. Results of the study are listed and recommendations are given. Includes 2 references.
