This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of Swiss federal law on drinking water and water quality standards. The trigger for the project was a bacterial contamination event in the water supply network in 2006, where organic material was injected into the network via a fire hydrant. Fundamental aspects developed in the framework of the project included: appropriate distribution of sensors within the water supply network; introduction of the sensors into a self-organized communication system; acquisition and storage of data related to critical water quality parameters, 24/7; and, automatic transmission of the data to a central server for processing.
