This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the MCWA system. The disinfection byproduct (DBP) reduction program is presented, including minimizing DBP formation by: optimizing hypochlorite (chlorine) use; using chlorine residual monitors leaving BPS and tanks; and, controling tank operation/water age. A 2007 research program used granular activated carbon (GAC) test columns and aeration. A cost comparison is presented of GAC vs. aeration, along with a 2009 research program at Mumford tank that included a comparison of different technologies and consecutive trials to tie DBP removal to power consumption. Includes figures.
