This slide presentation begins by defining asset management as: life-cycle management, managing from planning to disposal, condition assessments, reliability centered, focus on design and engineering, "3 R's" - Repair, Rehab, or Replace, accounting management, focus on fiscal responsibility to customer, and GASB-34 Compliance. The presentation provides an international model that describes all of the functions that should be accomplished to manage the entire life of assets to receive the best return on investments. The presentation defines other terminology such as hierarchy of asset management sophistication, computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and holistic approach. Two case studies are outlined, the first being the City of Chicago, Department of Water Management implementation of CMMS for Pumping Division, an Asset Centric utility is moving into phase 2 of implementation. The second case study is at the DuPage Water Commission, upgrade of CMMS for GASB34 compliance, GIS Integration, with the desire to implement Asset Management in a younger utility and when upgrade completed, focusing on Asset Management Plan.
