The City of Jackson, Mississippi, O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant (OBCWTP) is a conventional 25-million gallons perday (mgd) plant consisting of rapid mixing, flocculation, sedimentation andfiltration. The City wishes to expand the OBCWTP to a 75-mgd, and eventually100-mgd, plant. Pilot testing of several different treatment processes wasperformed by the City and their consultants to evaluate the treatmenttechnologies in terms of expanding the plant and meeting both promulgated andproposed regulations. These processes included: submerged and pressure membranes;high-rate sedimentation; ozone disinfection; chlorine dioxide disinfection; and, ultraviolet disinfection. This paper will concentrate specifically on themembrane pilot testing performed by the City of Jackson (City). The Citycontracted with three membrane manufacturers to perform pilot tests at theOBCWTP: Zenon; USF/Memco; and, IDI/Aquasource. Includes tables, figures.
