Since the promulgation of more stringent standards for arsenic in drinking water, many water purveyors are considering options for meeting these standards within the configuration of their existing systems. Part of the solution for many systems will include removal of arsenic through a wellhead water treatment plant. Coagulation/microfiltration (C/MF) has been shown in bench-scale testing, pilot testing, and full-scale systems to be an effective technology for removal of arsenic and meeting the arsenic standards. This presentation describes the application of C/MF technology for arsenic removal for the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Arsenic Removal Water Treatment Plant. This project is being implemented by the Indian Health Service in Fallon, Nevada. It is a 0.5-million gallon per day wellhead water treatment plant being integrated into an existing water distribution system. The presentation includes the following topics: general project description; plant process description; major process equipment specifics; and initial operating data and system performance. Includes table, figures.
