This slide presentation outlines information on the integration of membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology and desalting membranes for water reuse. Project objectives include: evaluate MBR systems recently introduced to the U.S. market; assess the impact of adding coagulant and polymer to the MBR feed water on MBR performance; evaluate MBR performance under extreme operating conditions (increased flux, low HRT); evaluate several different desalting membranes (NF/RO) following pretreatment by MBR; perform cost analysis by comparing cost of conventional and MBR as pretreatment to RO, and by determining the cost associated with RO during wastewater reclamation; and, evaluate the ability of commercially available MBR/RO process units to remove EDC/PPCPs from advanced primary effluent. The materials and methods outlined include: pilot testing performance; pilot treatment train; new and established suppliers of MBR pilot systems; MBR membrane specifications; desalting membrane specifications; MBR pilot operating conditions; RO operating conditions; MBR performance data including particulate removal, organic removal, inorganic nitrogen removal; MBR microbial rejection; RO performance data including water quality data; EDC/PCPPs Analysis; cost analysis; conventional train; MBR train; cost items: ditch + MF and MBR; cost items: chlorine contact and ultraviolet (UV); and, cost items: reverse osmosis. Includes tables, figures.
