This slide presentation outlines a pilot testing project with the objectives of: verifying that water quality objectives can be met; evaluating performance with two source waters; characterizing the reverse osmosis (RO) reject; establishing design parameters; collecting operational data to develop warranty considerations for design; and, provide operational experience for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) staff. Operational issues for both microfiltration (MF) and RO systems are listed related to both tertiary effluent testing and secondary effluent testing. Conclusions drawn from the Pilot Testing included: demonstrated that required water quality (WQ) objectives can be met using MF/RO technologies; MF/RO performance acceptable with secondary and tertiary effluent; three RO membrane vendors indicated they can meet criteria; waste stream characteristics useful in project planning; and, results from the pilot testing identified operational issues that will be incorporated into the design. Includes tables, figures.
