This paper describes an application of microfiltration to convert a facility designed to treat wastewater to a potable water treatment facility. The project was initiated in order to reduce the utility's reliance on groundwater and provide a high quality drinking water source. The project involved extensive process equipment selection evaluations to determine the optimal configuration for water treatment. The recommended process includes preliminary screening, dissolved air flotation with enhanced coagulation, microscreens, pressurized microfiltration, granular activated carbon, and disinfection with sodium hypochlorite. Major project challenges included process selection and incorporating the proposed facilities into the existing structure. Includes tables.
