The extended-focus technology is the basis for further expanding the applicability of light microscopy in both quality control and research. The newly developed software for image caption and image processing introduces light microscopy to the detailed examination of surface structures at high resolution, to simple 3D-reconstruction of surfaces, to measuring the relief of a surface and to the preparation of thorough SEM examination. These fields of application are demonstrated in examples from corrosion research. Includes 2 references, tables, figures.
