This slide presentation outlines a study concerning simulated disinfection byproduct (DBP) precursor removal using magnetic ion exchange resin in conjunction with existing technologies. The presentation outline includes: Background Material; Disinfection Byproducts (DBP's); Magnetic Ion Exchange Resin (MIEX); DBP Precursor Removal Comparison; Simulations of DBP Formation; and, Comparison of Processes. Conclusions were that: All Processes Showed Good Removal of NOM; Consistent Removal Regardless of Process Configuration; Bromide Showed Limited Removal; Dependent on MIEX® Dose and Pretreatment; Coagulation Pretreatment Removed Competing Ions (Carbonate Alkalinity and NOM) Increasing Bromide Capacity; All Process Simulations Suggested Good Removal of DBP Precursors; NOM-Based DBPs Consistent Removal; Related to Consistent NOM Removal; and, Bromate Reduction Dependent Upon Configuration's Ability To Remove Bromide Ion. Includes figures.
