The Green Valley Water Treatment Plant (WTP), located in Suisun, California is operated by the City of Vallejo Public Works Utilities Division and sources raw water from Lakes Frey and Madigan (local lake water), and the Solano Irrigation District (SID) via Lake Berryessa. In 2005, the City of Vallejo issued NOVs to the community served by this 1-MGD WTP due to violations of the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency Stage 1 Disinfection Byproducts Rule (DBPR) for TTHMs. To address the TTHM violations, the City had already commenced installation of a Magnetic Ion Exchange (MIEX®) resin pretreatment process to reduce treated water TOC levels prior to free chlorine disinfection. When this process came online in January 2006 it was the first full-scale application of the MIEX® process on a surface water in the United States. Includes reference, tables, figures.
