Estrogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) present in wastewater treatment plant effluents are capable of feminizing fishes downstream as well as producing contraceptive-like effects. The authors have documented such changes in downstream fishes in at least three sites in Colorado and have verified with careful chemical analyses and controlled experiments the feminizing capacity of effluents from one WWTP. Includes 29 references, figures.
