Background information on MAA is provided and includes: Mycobacteria Avium Complex (MAC) is on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) contaminant candidate list (CCL); current quantification methods are slow; Mycobacteria are known to be hydrophobic, but to what extent; and, better detection methods are needed.
