In this work, pilot scale treatment of a natural organic matter (NOM) laden water has been compared for: MIEX + coagulation treatment; and, conventional coagulation alone. Laboratory diagnostic testing investigated the size, strength and settling rate of flocs formed from a range of different water types. Analysis of the material removed by MIEX was also made by investigation of the organic compounds found in the MIEX regenerant. Includes 30 references, table, figures.
