This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Lead and Copper Rule, the St. Paul Water Resource Services, stannous chloride, and microbially influenced corrosion. Study objectives included: Sn may reduce Pb release by reducing the rate of microbially-influenced corrosion; and, toxicity to biofilm bacteria. The hypothesis was that Sn inhibits biofilm growth. The effect of stannous chloride on lead corrosion and on the development of biofilm are both presented. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: stannous chloride does not appear to effect lead surface potential; it does not appear to affect lead surface mineralogy; it reduces the development of biofilm at doses as low as 0.125 mg/L Sn2+; and, it causes reduction of developed biofilm at approximately 1 mg/L as Sn2+. Includes 6 references, figures.
