This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of bioprocesses for drinking water treatment as part of a multistage process, processes in fixed-bed bioreactors, and modeling approaches. Study objectives include the development and verification of a mechanistic model to study the behavior of filter columns with respect to bacteria concentrations at media surface and in suspended phase. Experimental methodology included performing column experiments with different carrier media - apply Iwasaki-law, determining filtration coefficient (changes with attached bacteria concentration); setting up model for column behavior from mechanistic approach - Langmuir kinetics - attachment / detachment; determining coefficients - attachment and detachment rates, and maximum attached bacteria capacity; and, comparing coefficients from column and batch (validation of model prediction). Includes tables, figures.
