This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a brief overview of Intermediate Concentrate Chemical Stabilization (ICCS), and an ICCS pilot testing program by the City of Phoenix, Arizona, on brackish surface water and groundwater. Pilot testing chemical dosage is presented, along with a revised natural organic matter (NOM) fractionation procedure that was developed in an attempt to address silica distribution. The detection of amino acids using FTIR in scraped material indicates biological activities, and a large microbial population was observed on the membrane surface. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing further identified bacteria species. Hypothetically, the colloidal silicates in surface water caused fouling and promoted biological growth. Includes tables, figures.
