This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the formation of the disinfection byproducts (DBP) Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and Haloacetic Acids (HAA5s), and regulatory drivers including the Stage 2 DBPR. The City of Tempe's DBP control approaches are presented and include: historical LRAA analysis; monitoring of Stage 2 sites and WTP; and, treatment/operation improvements and modifications. Efforts have helped the City of Tempe understand whether the current operations can comply with the Stage 2 D/DBP Rule and identify the factors (water quality and operational changes) that influence DBP formation and evaluate potential solutions. Recommendations included coagulation with optimized coagulant and PAC dose, and blending with GW. Includes figures.
