This powerpoint presentation outlines an expansion project at the E.L. Smith Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Concept development included a number of innovative ideas that would help achieve the mandated capacity increase while reusing parts of the existing process and converting their function. The conceptual design for the current upgrade identified the following criteria: expansion to increase net firm capacity to 400 ML/d with the capacity to increase to 600 ML/d in the future; provide reliability, redundancy, robustness and ease of operation and maintenance; reuse existing infrastructure as much as possible; increase raw water intake and pumping capacity; provide raw water feed to clarifier C3; increase clarification capacity by converting and reusing Clarifier C3 as a turbidity removal clarifier; increase hydraulic capacity; increase filtration capacity; increase disinfection capacity; and, increase chemical feed capacity. Further topics outlined include: raw water supply and pipeline; clarifiers; filters; and, chemical systems. Includes tables, figures.
