This poster presentation provides a brief project overview that includes the following: South Weymouth Naval Air Station, 1,450 acre base closed in 1997 and a mixed-use redevelopment will include 2,800 residential units and 2 million square feet of commercial and light industrial space; anticipated water demands include potable water demand at full buildout = 1.4 MGD, and irrigation water demand for golf course = 0.3 to 0.45 MGD. A Pumping test included the following: well was pumped for six days; well was shut down without stabilization; data sources during test were from 39 test wells, 16 drive points (11 in wetlands, 5 in stream), and 3 stream flow monitoring points. A groundwater model included the following: Transient Visual MODFLOW model; modeling period was 4,500 hours, or 180 days of continuous pumping; no surface recharge to simulate worst-case pumping conditions; and, model calibrated to within 0.72 feet of observed water levels. Conclusions: well is not suitable for potable water supply, limited recharge and poor water quality; pumping impacts included stream - minimal, wetlands - some drawdown near well, clean-up sites - no impact, and well is suitable for irrigation use.
