Metro Water Services (MWS) has recently completed a Master Water Plan internally with its own engineering staff to look at water infrastructure needs to accommodate growth occurring in its water service area. This recent plan replaced the existing Master Water Plans done in the past by consulting engineers. Due to the advances in technology, geographic information systems (GIS) data along with traffic analysis zones (TAZ), population forecasts provided by the local Metropolitan Planning Organization were used in determining the differential increases in population and industry within each pressure system in the service area. The changes in growth were applied to the existing measured flows and then hydraulically modeled with improvements identified for the short term (2010) and long term (2025) period. The improvements were further analyzed and planning costs were developed and incorporated into MWS' Capital Improvements Program. Includes figures.
