This Practice provides the minimum requirements for exchange of technical documents using a transmittal letter. It also describes the requirements for preparation of a transmittal letter. The attributes defined here are also appropriate for the handling of transmittals in a document management system that exchange documents electronically. This Practice provides pre-defined values that describe the reason documents are created and exchanged. The Practice also provides pre-defined values for the approval status of documents.
