This material has been used typically for parts to be formed or machined in the solution heat treated condition and subsequently precipitation heat treated requiring high strength-to-weight ratio and stability up to 550 \mDF (288 \mDC) in the precipitation heat treated condition, but usage is not limited to such applications.

Certain processing procedures and service conditions may cause these products to become subject to stress-corrosion cracking; SAE ARP 982 recommends practices to minimize such conditions.
